it let me win last week

it gave me a beautiful time

with the love of my life

with the best of my friends

in the place where my ashes will mix with earth

winning carried the weight

of terror in lurking under my bed each night

and horror’s lease on life coming up at the exact moment I returned,

details that reinforced,

that any enjoyment I’m able to wrestle from this life is truly a win,

and finding peace is not the same as having your way.

I saw an aura and thought I was dying. maybe what I saw was a sign that I was just beginning to live.

it’s like being able to fire an arrow that drills down into something as far as it can go. but you only have partial control over whether it goes where you want it to go.

arrows, like inspiration, are in constant supply if you know where to look — the key is to motivate yourself to continue the search. and then to remember what you set out to do.
